And for those of you who are still using Excel 2013 and haven't made the leap to Power BI, I started telling you about this series of books on Excel and Power BI that I've published. In it I focused on the first two books of the collection «Analyze your business with Excel and Power BI. Learn from your data«, these are not aimed at any specific tool, although I think it is essential to read them to know the fundamental pillars that will allow you to get the most out of them and apply many good practices on the tools that we will now see, Excel and Power BI.

If you've already made the leap to Power BI, I recommend you go straight to my new book that I told you about above. click HERE.

Subsequently I will talk to you about the other three books that, for now, make up the collection:

  • Volume III: deals with obtaining data from various sources (Excel, CSV, databases, web pages, etc.), performing the necessary transformations to convert the data into information and loading them into the Data Model (Power Pivot), all this using the tool called Power Query, which also allows us to automate the entire process carried out to rerun it as many times as we want simply by clicking on the Refresh button
  • Volume IV: Focuses on the heart of all this technology, enriching Data Model information (Power Pivot) and creating powerful analytical calculations using DAX
  • Volume V: dedicated to the entire visualization part, addressing not only the Power View and Power Map tools, but also a good dose of visualization techniques and good practices that will be very useful for your reports and dashboards

I will now comment in detail on each of my books on Excel and Power BI published so far.

EXCEL 2013 AND POWER QUERY. Collect data, forget boring and repetitive tasks. Volume III

ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) processes are one of the most complex parts to understand for business users accustomed to traditional Excel tools. It's time to understand them, and even be able to create them, with a new tool built into Excel as an add-in, called Power Query. With it we will create our ETL processes and leave them ready to run as many times as we need over time.
Indispensable for all those who want:

  • Understand the problems caused by not accurately representing data history
  • Have greater independence from the IT department to generate your own models
  • Be able to create ETL processes with Power Query, integrating data from different sources

EXCEL 2013, POWER PIVOT AND DAX. Your analyzes elevated to the nth degree. Volume IV

Power Pivot is the heart of the new analytical power built into Excel, based on new memory storage models and its DAX (Data Analysis eXpressions) language. In this book you will learn all the fundamentals and capabilities, you will also learn the principles necessary to create a good design of tables, relations and the rest of the elements that make up the models and, finally, how to enrich them using the new DAX Formula Language.

Indispensable for all those who want:

  • Enhance models with Power Pivot and take advantage of all its features
  • Understand the contexts of rows, queries, and filters. Without them you will not be able to use DAX correctly.
  • Create DAX-based columns and calculated measures
  • Design KPIs

EXCEL 2013, POWER VIEW, POWER MAP AND BI. View, discover, share and decide. Volume V

Excel has offered us pivot tables and pivot charts as visualization and analysis tools for years. With the arrival of Excel 2013, two new add-ins have been incorporated, i.e. new tools to improve visualization, called Power View and Power Map. If we add to this the collaborative capabilities of SharePoint and Power BI, we are able to move from a personal BI to a collaborative BI, being able to share what we have done in a very simple and intuitive way.

Indispensable for all those who want:

  • Use PivotTables and PivotCharts connected to Power Pivot models
  • Create dashboards and dashboards using Power View
  • Make videos with geolocalized historical information using Power Map
  • Know best practices for designing reports, know which types of graphics to use in each situation, and make appropriate use of important properties such as size, color, position, and time. In short, give the best visual answers to business questions
  • Be able to share the work done and be able to collaborate with the rest of the team in making better decisions
